Mike Welling has more than 36 years of experience in gift and estate planning, including leadership of planned giving programs at national nonprofit organizations. His work spans charitable estate strategies, donor engagement, and professional education.
Mike Welling is Senior Director of Planned Giving at the ALS Network, where he oversees all aspects of planned giving and estate settlement.
Mike has held senior planned giving leadership roles with prominent national nonprofits, including the Salvation Army, Arthritis Foundation, and USO. He is recognized for his expertise in charitable estate strategies and long-term donor relationships. Mike studied music at the University of Colorado.
Mike was honored to join the Board of Directors of the American Council on Gift Annuities in 2017, following a nomination by his first mentor and supervisor in planned giving, Lindsay Lapole.
In his spare time, Mike enjoys golfing, going to movies, and spending time with his sons. He recently retired as the founder and director of Joyous Brass, a British-style brass band based in Sacramento, California.

What was your first job?
At age 13, I was a paperboy in Colorado Springs.
When did you first learn about Charitable Gift Annuities?
I learned about gift annuities when I went through planned giving training at the Salvation Army. I thought it was such a fabulous giving option for donors.
Where is your favorite vacation spot?
I love going to Pebble Beach and Hawaii.
If you could learn one personal new skill, what would it be?
Something I can picture myself doing is taking a photography class.
